The Victorian Era is believed to have set the foundation for the basic principles of virtue and the importance of living harmoniously in society as a good and decent individual. There are certain attributes that make one rise to this standard and the Queen of England, Queen Victoria is said to have represented this without fault or detour. The allegorical representation of the Queen’s six virtues was first presented on the Victoria Memorial outside of Buckingham Palace. Designed after her death, the Winged Angel of Victory is featured at the top of the monument, and crouched at her feet are the allegorical figures of Courage and Constancy. This specific coin celebrates the allegorical figure of Courage.

For the obverse field of the coin, the image was designed by Jody Clark who drew her inspiration from the designs of Ian Rank Broadly. 

For the reverse field of the 2022 1 oz Proof St. Helena Silver Queen’s Virtues Courage Coin, the allegorical figure of Courage is featured. She is depicted as a seated woman who wears a glorious helmet and a long, heroic cape. She holds a club in her right hand. The inscriptions featured on this side of the coin translate to “fortune favours the brave.”
