Know Your Coins
🟡 Are coins a good investment? Can they go down in price?
Like the stock you buy through a broker, a coin can be a good investment, and its price can go up or down. Funnily enough, whereas even a casual investor will consult a broker for buying a stock, a casual coin collector may make the mistake of recklessly investing in coins. So remember to approach coin investment with the same level of research and due diligence you would bring to other financial investments!
🟡 Is collecting any type of coin a good investment?
All hobby collectors—of coins, comic books, or cat figurines—occasionally give in and make purchases based on an impulse or a sentiment. In fact, such irrational lapses are part of the fun and the intrigue of a collecting hobby. But if you are a coin collector looking for investment value, you cannot afford such lapses—not all coins are valuable. If you make informed and selective coin purchases, you can find several worthwhile investments. At the same time, historically rewarding but neglected or slow-moving coins as well as those with common dates or low grades are not worth your while. Remember that your coin collection is not an end but a means to an end outside your hobby.
🟡 Are bullion coins a good investment?
A bullion coin is a coin struck from a precious metal like gold, silver, or platinum. For example, the value of a gold bullion coin is based on its weight (e.g. 1 gram) and purity (e.g. 99.99%) but not necessarily its condition/grade or rarity. Bullion coins have several advantages: they give you direct physical ownership of the precious metal, they are a secure store of value, and they can be cashed in quickly. Like a stock/bond, the market value of bullion coins will fluctuate (in this case, based on the market price of the precious metal). Further, unlike a stock/bond or some market investments, bullion coins might not fetch you a high return or generate a current income. Bullion coins are considered a safe investment, especially during a time of financial crisis or recession. They may be a good investment depending on your financial needs, so talk to your trusted financial advisor about this.
🟡 Which bullion coin is the best?
The best bullion coin is one with a clearly defined weight (e.g. 1 gram, 1 troy ounce) and high purity (typically, 0.9999 or 99.99%) and that is produced by a government mint (e.g. United States Mint, Royal Canadian Mint, Royal Australian Mint), a certified precious metals refiner (e.g. certified by London Bullion Market Association), or a reputable jeweller. Remember that it is important to trust the quality of the bullion coin you purchase. Some of the most popular bullion coins include the American Eagle, Canadian Maple Leaf, Australian Nugget (or Australian Kangaroo), South African Kruggerand, and Chinese Panda. These coins all have unique designs, and some have a different design every year. Therefore, they have long been popular with collectors, and they may have a premium market value above their precious metal value.
🟡 What is a better investment: a bullion coin or a bullion bar?
Bullion coins almost always have a very clean and fine finish, so they look and feel good. In fact, some designs like the American Eagle and Australian Kangaroo are quite famous. Also, coins have small weights, so they are affordable for all collectors. Some bullion bars also have good finishes, but some can be a little lumpy. Also, bars have higher weight, so they are more affordable for large buyers. Overall, bullion coins are easy to purchase, easy to trade, and have higher premiums than bullion bars, so they should make a better investment.
🟡 What is the difference between a bullion coin and a proof coin?
A bullion coin is a precious metal coin with a certain weight and high purity. It is intended for investors. A proof coin is the finest quality coin produced by a mint. It is produced by a special process, with the result that it is very smooth and has a sharp rim and design. Proof coins are relatively rare and are packed in a protective case. They are intended for collectors, and they can be quite valuable. Our shop offers both bullion coins and a wide variety of proof coins to satisfy your desire for these rare collectables!.
🟡 What is the difference between a bullion coin and a numismatic coin?
A bullion coin is a precious metal coin with a certain weight and high purity. If you purchase a bullion coin, you are investing in a precious metal that is in the form of a coin. A numismatic coin is a collectable coin because of its rarity, history, or design. If you purchase a numismatic coin, you are investing in a coin itself. Our shop offers a selection of both bullion coins and numismatic coins from all over the world, so have a look!
