Description
AC/DC 2022/2023 20c Coloured Uncirculated 6 Coin Collection
Australia has produced many fine bands but AC/DC towers over them all, still performing almost half a century after it was formed in Sydney in 1973.
The Royal Australian Mint continues its celebration of AC/DC and its music with the release of a six-coin collection of 2022 and 2023 20-cent coloured coins commemorating the band and five of its albums.
In 1973, Scottish-born brothers Malcolm and Angus Young formed their band, deciding its name from a label on a sewing machine – AC/DC.
After an early flirtation with glam rock, AC/DC adopted its trademark heavy rock played very loud in live venues, attracting a devoted fan base, initially in Australia but then overseas as the band cracked the US market.
AC/DC has been as prolific as it has been loud, producing 17 studio albums and selling more than 200 million records. First was High Voltage in 1975, followed by another 11 albums through the 1970s and 1980s.
To commemorate AC/DC and its music, the Royal Australian Mint has embarked on a program of coin releases, with the latest release, Volume II, marking five albums: Let There Be Rock (1977), Powerage (1978), Flick the Switch (1983), Blow up Your Video (1988) and Black Ice (2008).
