Description
Budgerigars Postal Numismatic Cover
• Australian legal tender
• Commemorative reverse design
• Beautifully designed presentation envelope
The Perth Mint and Australia Post are pleased to present this stamp and coin cover which features the inquisitive and endearing Budgerigar (Melopsittacus undulatus).
The Budgerigar is a small parrot native to the drier regions of Australia, where it is found in open scrublands, woodlands, and grassland. In the wild, Budgerigars are green and yellow, with black markings on the nape, back and wings. These nomadic birds usually move around in small flocks, but under favourable conditions cab sometimes number in the many thousands. Budgerigars (or budgies) are one of the world’s most popular pets.
Highly social, they are very receptive to humans and can be trained to whistle, mimic speech and do simple tricks. Budgies have been bred in a range of colour combinations, including yellow, blue, violet, grey and white, and in many countries are exhibited by enthusiasts in competitive shows.
Issued as Australian legal tender, the uncirculated aluminium bronze coin is housed in a beautifully designed card with a circular window revealing the coin’s reverse and obverse designs.
DESIGN
Each coin’s reverse portrays a Budgerigar in colour perched on a branch. Also included in the design is the inscription ‘BUDGERIGAR’, and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark.
The Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the monetary denomination, and the 2022 year-date are shown on the coin’s obverse.

Affixed to the envelope is an official Australia Post $1.10 stamp. The stamp is postmarked for the first day of issue and the envelope includes Australia Post’s Seal of Authenticity.
