Description
2021 Niue $1 Silver Antique Coin - I see you - Do you know me? - Uroplatus Phantasticus (Leaf-tailed Gecko)
The Lithuanian Mint continues to introduce to the unparalleled beauty of Africa's wildlife and adds a new coin to the Wild Africa series – a coin about the mysterious satanic leaf-tailed gecko (Uroplatus phantasticus)
The satanic leaf-tailed gecko is one of the thirteen recognised species of gecko lizards in the genus of Uroplatus. These species were discovered on the island of Madagascar in the 17th century. The satanic leaf-tailed gecko is found only in the mountainous rainforest on the island of Madagascar, just off the southeast coast of Africa. These reptiles are small, ranging from 6.3 to 8.9 centimetres in length, including the tail.
The reverse of the coin features the mesmerising eye of the satanic leaf-tailed gecko in fiery hues. A special UV varnish technology has been used to make it look realistic – the eye is convex, as if a real reptile were looking at you.
The obverse of the coin features a portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
