2011 RAM $1 Uncirculated Mintmark & Privy Mark Four Coin Set (C,S,M,B)
Description
With the positive response from collectors in 2010 to our four coin-set, we are pleased to release in 2011 a Canberra mintmark along with the privy mark coins for Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne. Featuring the ram's head coin design, this set will complement any $1 collection and is a great ongoing series to collect.
The Merino ram’s head design featured on the 2011 $1 uncirculated ‘C’ mintmark and the privy mark coins of Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne is the same designthat graced the Australian shilling from 1938 until 1963. The original design was modeled on a grand champion Merino from the annual Sydney Sheep show in1932. This ram was considered to be unmatched in the position of its head and horns. Named Uardry 0.1 after its home station, it became known as the ‘ShillingRam’ and represented Australia’s growing wool industry. The dignified Merino ram represents Australia’s reliance on primary industry through its economic history.
