The Games of the XXX Olympiad will be held in London, England from 27 July to 12 August 2012. London will become the first city to officially host the modern Olympic Games three times, having previously done so in 1908 and 1948.
This remarkable release features the iconic sights of London, and celebrates the Australian Olympic team’s achievement; as our athlete’s ‘road to London’ was paved by many hours of dedication, hard work and training.
This unique stamp-shaped coin is struck from 1/2oz of 99.9% pure silver in proof quality by The Perth Mint.
Featuring the sights of London, Big Ben, St Paul’s Cathedral and the London Eye, in silhouette, the coin’s reverse stamp design also depicts the official Olympic rings and the Australian flag. A colourful London bus, with the destination 2012 emblazoned on the bus’s route indicator tops off this remarkable release.
This coin and stamp set is limited to a mintage of 8,000 coins.
Issued as legal tender under the Australian Currency Act 1965, the coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and 2012 year-date.
The official 2012 Australia Post, The Road to London 60c commemorative stamp was designed by Jonathan Chong, and mirrors the matching coin design.
The commemorative 60c stamp and coin is presented in a fold-up display stand and attractively themed, souvenir shipper with numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
