Description
An honoured and sacred institution, Anzac Day falls on 25 April each year, the day Australian and New Zealand troops landed on the Gallipoli peninsula in 1915. Since 1916, it has been dedicated to commemorative activities honouring the courage and sacrifice of the first ANZACs during World War I and all succeeding Defence Force personnel who have served in times of war and other operations. The coin portrays a stylised torch and an eternal flame, a symbol of gratitude and remembrance. It is encircled by images of poppies, the commemorative flower of remembrance. As well as the inscriptions ’25 APRIL’ and ‘LEST WE FORGET’, the design also incorporates The Perth Mint’s historic ‘P’ mintmark.
This coin portrays the official ‘Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Obverse’, featuring the Jody Clark effigy supplemented with the dates of Her Majesty’s reign – ‘1952 – 2022’.
